As our communities grow more diverse, representation matters. Yet candidates from marginalized communities face different obstacles when they run for public office. Hear from diverse candidates about how they overcame these obstacles. Come for the encouragement and the inspiration.
This is the third in our public series of recruiting workshops for those interested in running for local office in the 2027 municipal election. This panel discussion will focus on the special challenges that candidates from marginalized communities (LGTBQIA+, Black, Latino, Immigrant, etc.) face when they run for office in the Northwest Suburbs. Confirmed panelists include:
Hon. Nabeela Syed - State Rep. and State Senator Candidate
Hon. Maggie Trevor - County Commissioner
Hon. Sheri Williams - Wheeling Township Trustee
Are you interested in running for local office - Village Office or Trustee, School Board, Library Board, or Park Board? The Candidates’ Coach Academy, is gearing up for the 2027 Municipal Elections with a series of introductory programs to help you make that decision.
The Candidates’ Coach Academy was founded by Mark Michaels in 2018 to promote bringing liberal and progressive values to local governments in the Northwest Suburbs. In 2023, the Democratic Organizations in Wheeling, Elk Grove, and Palatine Townships began sponsoring this successful program and 94% of the 2025 cadre ran successful campaigns. Barrington Township Dems have now joined us.
Participating in one or more of these introductory sessions is a first step towards being accepted into the 2027 cadre, which will be organized this June. (Petitioning for the election starts in August of this year!)
Reservations are required. If you would like to attend, please link to register at: https://forms.gle/df9JvgpB8YHQADWNA
